Training

Basic obedience training is a great way for you and your puppy to bond while teaching your puppy something valuable that benefits its whole life. It is fairly easy to train sit, down, heel, and stay to the Miniature Schnauzer due to their need to please and their level of intelligence.

Basic obedience also gets the puppy’s brain working which is very important to its health. It stimulates the puppy and is like exercise which helps with boredom and helps keep your puppy from doing behaviors you don’t like. It also makes you both feel a sense of accomplishment when the puppy learns to sit, etc on command every time.

Training is very important for the puppy's confidence. The more confident your puppy, the more secure it is in itself and the less fearful it will be in different situations. Puppies are instinctively fearful of most new things so the more confidence it has in you and itself, the less fearful it will be in each new situation.

I recommend training your puppies to do some tricks also. It’s fun for both of you and it helps you bond even more. Simple tricks like spin, speak, and rollover are a lot of fun. Just remember when you are training keep your sessions to 2-5 times daily and only about 5-10 minutes long and keep it fun and happy.

Following is a link to a YouTube video that gives you training advice for your puppy and helps you have a place to start if you have never trained before. It is by Nathan Schoemer who is a Master Trainer from The Tom Rose School. I will also leave a link for the school so you can check out who and what it teaches.
